Trekking through Nepal in aid of AAH

In March our founder, Richard Bigg, will be joining a team of 18 chefs, restaurateurs and food industry experts to take on a trek challenge through the Himalayas in Nepal, with the team goal of raising over £120,000 for Camino’s charity partner Action Against Hunger and their lifesaving programmes around the world.

While Camino has supported the charity since 2010, this will be the first time we have taken on a physical or fundraising challenge of this scale, and it will be tough: six long days on our feet through mountainous terrain, at altitudes of up to 2800m, with basic camping facilities at the end of each day.

On completing the trek we hope to visit Action Against Hunger’s programmes in Nepal, to see first-hand the impact that the support of businesses like ours can make in tackling child malnutrition. Action Against Hunger has worked in Nepal since 2005, treating children for life-threatening malnutrition, and scaled up its work there significantly in response to the devastating earthquake in April 2015, providing nutrition, water and sanitation, and mental health and care practices support.

At Camino we think it’s unacceptable that 1 in 8 people go to bed hungry each night when there is enough food in the world to feed everyone. It costs just £42 to save the life of a malnourished child and nurse them back to health. Nobody enjoys asking for money, and we’re often inundated with such requests, however this really strikes a chord with us. Any donations you’re able to make, no matter how small, would be hugely appreciated, and will certainly make a huge and important difference to the cause.
